Annually at the Air Medical Transport Conference (AMTC) the MedEvac Foundation International and the Air Medical Journal are proud to support the showing of poster abstracts in the Scientific Assembly.
Establishing Air Medical Programs for the Next Generation
Helicopter Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) are a vital link to the healthcare systems of many countries around the world, however, these critical services do not exist, even in many of the world’s most economically developed nations and regions. The MedEvac Foundation, along with valued partner Bell Helicopter, recognized the need to educate any nation, currently without HEMS capability, on the unique and life-saving benefits provided by air medical services.
The resulting product of this study, entitled Establishing Air Medical Programs for the Next Generation, offers a comprehensive framework for developed or developing countries to use as a guide when establishing air medical systems for their most critically ill and injured patients. The document can be used to educate national leaders, legislators, regulators, and business leaders on the unique and life-saving medical services provided by HEMS operators and the benefits of these HEMS programs to their nations, businesses, hospitals, and the general population.

Updated Economic Analysis of the U.S. Rotary Wing Air Medical Transport Industry
Following the release of an earlier version of this report dated June 2013, Economic & Planning Systems (EPS) discovered that there were errors and inconsistencies in the underlying survey data used to report the economic benefits. After attention was brought to the fact that primary data collected and used from air medical transport (AMT) programs throughout the U.S. contained flaws in reported operational costs and volume (i.e. number of patient transports), EPS requested that the link to the existing study be removed from the MedEvac Foundation’s website until a revision could be prepared. The link below is a revision of that study.
Stay tuned for the Foundation’s 2nd Economic Impact Study, currently underway, focusing on hospitals and hospital-based medical transport programs. This new study will examine the impacts that air medical transport and critical care ground transport programs have on the hospitals they serve.
Annotated Bibliography of Safety Literature
To mitigate risk, define root causes, and improve patient safety in the transport medicine setting, it is necessary to understand the relevant medical and non-medical literature related to transport safety. Formated in an excel spreadsheet, the annotated bibliography will serve as a key resource and reference repository for everyone in the transport medicine community. The document contains a thorough and extensive review of the safety literature related to the following domains:
- Ground critical care ambulance transport
- Helicopter medical transport
- Fixed wing medical transport
- Human factor errors associated with medical transport
- Medical errors and complications associated with medical transport
- Safety culture and safety management systems

Safety Day Handbook – A Guide to Planning and Executing an Educational and Informational Program
The Critical Care Transport Collaborative Outcomes Research Effort (CCT CORE) is a multicenter research group, assembled to advance the science of air and ground CCT.
